Spotlight On: Camping Deux Vallées, Dordogne

A new base site to add to our annual tour, and well placed to walk to Beynac.

Run by French/Dutch couple Derrick & Caroline, this traditional campsite is the perfect place to relax after a day touring the Dordogne.

Most pitches have views of Chateau Beynac in the distance, and at only 500m away it is a dramatic backdrop that the photos don't do justice.

You can walk up the village and visit the marvel, but I am warning you it is a steep hill. Not great for those of us who have spent lock down gorging on croissants and home-made pasta...

Don't be put off though as there are a few bars at the top for refreshments and the view is well worth it.

Back to the campsite, and after a hot day climbing the hills, you can cool down in the 22 metre infinity pool. The website says it is heated, but on our visit during a hot day in July it was a refreshing dip.

There is an onsite restaurant, and daily bread delivery but you can walk to the village via a countryside track. We saw a few people cycle in but it took us around 15 minutes to the edge of the village where there is a supermarket, snack bar and restaurant. It was then another 5 or so minutes to the centre of the village and don't ask me how long I took to climb up that hill!!
